Kelly Anderson - President
In the summer 2003, I began the first of many 100 mile trips from my home in Rochester MN to Sparta WI (a smaller town about 20 miles east of La Crosse. My trips brought me out to help an all volunteer haunted house put on to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Sparta WI.
Having a background in residential and commercial HVAC construction, my experience kept me quite busy building and fabricating haunt rooms for the charity attraction. Within a matter of minutes my first day at the haunt, I soon realized that building wall sections and laying out walkways was not quite going to do it for me, so I began drawing up my first real creation for our haunt, the "Shrink Room". Building mechanical and automated type rooms was definitely what it was all about for me. After gaining some much needed experience in how a haunt really works, I later designed and constructed even more elaborate haunt rooms resulting in scares that would leave lasting impressions with even the most fearless of our patrons. Rooms such as the "Moving Room/Hell Hall", "Wall Drop/Crypt", and "Saw/Hells Bench" had new arrival patrons talking about them before they ever got chance to experience it for themselves.
After the 2004 season I began putting together my thoughts on running my own Halloween and haunted house supply retail business. My passion for building haunt rooms was boiling over to say the least. I really wanted to get to a point where I could build some of my creations at a manufactured level to offer to haunts nation wide. It was quite a goal to reach but I new I wanted to offer products for many different aspects of haunting as well. By May of 2005 HauntYourHouse.net was an officially registered business with a very small web site carrying, some fog machines, lighting fx, Bloody Marry Makeup, a few masks, and a couple animation controllers.
Being I had allot more time on my hand than money, and a whole lot of learning to do on maintaining a web site, I decided to share many of my ideas and experiences building and helping out in our haunt and therefore wrote the first page of "The Haunted House". The page began the first of many emails asking for more info on how to build haunt rooms like I had done. I'm not sure if I more anxiously awaited an email about a haunt room or an email notification of an order that was placed. HA!
By the beginning of 2009 it was inevitable that a much needed face lift of the web site would take place along with dramatic updates to the site graphically and product wise. That spring and summer entailed many hours of reconstruction and construction of the site and over the winter got its new image as it looks today. At Haunt Your House much time has been invested in providing quality products that are easy of use and at the most reasonable prices we could offer. Having worked in the haunt since 2003, I know just how hard it can be to not only find the right products for the application, but finding those products with the quality and affordability one would hope for.
Kicking off 2010 has been quite a year to start off with. It's been busy with all the updating, addition of products, and then the increasing number of orders on top of that. Its looking to be the most successful year since opening our doors. The funnest part is not knowing which area of business will get tackled next do to the success we've had so far!!
As mentioned, HauntYourHouse is fully owned and operated by yours truly, Kelly Anderson. During construction season of the haunt we will get some of the best and most appreciated help building our haunt rooms. Still allot of help from my home area in and near Rochester MN will make the 100 mile trip to help out with building and construction. And many times come back throughout October to play characters in the haunt as well.
Outlook for HauntYourHouse.net
The future looks quite bright here at HauntYourHouse.net. One of many goals is the start of manufacturing of props (animated and static). Although at the moment location and space is limiting this step, I am vigorously working towards expansion of the business. Expansion will include but not limited to increasing retail products, design and fabrication of props and haunt rooms, prop making (molding and casting), and detailed painting. If anybody in the LaCrosse WI area is familiar and interested in building Halloween and Haunted Attraction products and has the self drive and passion to get involved, don't hesitate to send me an email.
