Ive been using audio repeaters for several years now at the House of Shadows. Ive used them to add to the initial scare from pneumatic props and also with my actors scares as well. You can set them up with lighting effects if you want lighting to come on with your audio. Ive also used them to play rules for our haunt.

When I choose audio for the startle type of scare, one thing I look for is an audio track that begins with kind of a soft tone and then builds in intensity. And at its peak is when my lighting fx activate and light up my props or my characters. Using this type of approach with audio and a audio repeater has always been very effective towards delivering my scares at the best possible times. It also helps in queing my actors as to when to initiate their scare and be right on every time.
